ANA DIAS BATISTA

Ignition, 2022

Volcanic rock spheres from Etna, Stromboli and Vesuvius, concrete board, wooden structure.

80 x 60 x 60cm

"Ignition" developed from another work, "Three-Headed Hound", carried out during a residency in Italy. For "Three-Headed Hound", I obtained a stone from each of the three active volcanoes in the country and had them faceted so that they would fit together. The leftovers were brought to Brazil and hand-cut into marbles by a lapidary. The sets of marbles from Etna, from Stromboli and from Vesuvius now face each other on the board. In adittion, one of Vesuvius' marbles was sent to Pompeii (see "Scusa").
